Politics
Folks don´t really talk politics much down here. But Friday, Calderon will officially take office. There is talk that Obrador (the guy with the shadow government) and his supporters will protest in the zocalo in Mexico City. But protests have been forbidden on that day.
In Oaxaca, things went a little nuts over the weekend, during clashes between protestors with molotov cocktails and federal police. About 150 detained, 50 injured, some unacounted for. Also, several buildings in the historic part of town were torched and destroyed.
This morning, at breakfast, my hostess said she´s afraid that perhaps Calderon will turn into a dictator. But that might be what the country needs, she said. Big problems need big solutions. We´d suffer, but the problems might be solved, she said.
